St. Bernardino Institute

of Ecumenical Studies

St. Bernardino Institute of Ecumenical Studies (ISE) is a section of the Faculty of Theology of the Pontificia Università Antonianum (Roma). The Institute promotes  studies at an academic level, and intends to enable students with a solid and scientific theological training in the Ecumenical view.

ISE was generated from the various courses of Ecumenism introduced in 1975 at St. Bernardino Theological Studium of the Minor Franciscans in Verona. In May 1989, the Congregation for Catholic Education gave its approval to implement  a  two-year course for a Theology Degree, with specialization in Ecumenical Studies.

A new Campus in Venice was established in S. Francesco della Vigna Friary to begin this academic activity. During the years, together with the academic teaching, ISE has been holding several conferences and seminars, in cooperation with other cultural and ecumenical Institutions.

Furthermore, ISE publishes its own scientific review:  Rivista di Studi Ecumenici (Review of Ecumenical Studies), and the Biblioteca di Studi Ecumenici  series (Library of Ecumenical Studies).

The Library, is specialized in Ecumenism, and is equipped with a fair number of ancient and modern texts related to different branches in the Theological field.
