On the occasion of Br. Tecle Vetrali's 70th birthday, S. Bernardino Institute has paid homage with a special issue of Papers of Ecumenical Studies. The 500 page volume offers a broad, wide, and contemporary overview of ecumenical theology.
The text opens with a contribution by Br. Tecle on ecumenical formation and ends with an investigation on taught ecumenism. Within we find another five sections on the following topics: Scripture and spirituality, ecclesiological and sacramental reflection, discussion on the doctrine of justification, problems of borders, history.
The authors, mainly lecturers from the Institute, who were given literary freedom, thereby produced volume of unexpected richness of contributions which reflects well Br. Tecle's multiform ecumenical commitment expressed through his teaching, publications, official meetings and interpersonal relations, trips, preaching and, last but not least, prayer. Br. Tecle's wide ranged ecumenism is based on the Holy Scripture, is nourished with his Franciscan spirituality and is expressed in various practical initiatives.
The plurality of voices in this publication come abreast of Br. Tecle's variegated ecumenical commitment and reiterate the common wish that 'all be one thing only', reflecting the fertility of the ecumenical pathway.
